Scholarship Programme launched for African Applicants

The Edinburgh Business School in Scotland launches one of the biggest scholarship programmes for Africa this week in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The UK University is offering 250 students from across Africa the opportunity to study their MBA (Master of Business Administration) through correspondence. Each year for the next 5 years, 50 bright-minded young adults will be offered full scholarships to complete their studies in business administration.
The purpose of the programme, which is being run in partnership with Canon Collins Trust, is to offer historically disadvantaged applicants the chance to gain a firm foundation in business management skills.
According to the Director of the Business school,
The business school has been active in Africa for 20 years and to celebrate this milestone we wanted to establish an initiative to promote life-long learning across the continent
As the course is mediated through long distance learning, applicants will have flexible schedules enabling them to continue working while they study. This opportunity will assist the applicants to affect positive change, not only in their own lives and present workplaces, but in their wider communities as well.
The broader impact of the scholarship programme will be to effectively develop the potential of the African continent.
At present, 38 scholarships have already been rewarded for this year 2010. The applicants, who have recently begun their studies with the programme, hail from 14 different countries in SADC region including Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The Edinburgh Business School African Scholarship Programme will be formally launched in Johannesburg on September 15. The attendees will be addressed by keynote speaker, activist and celebrated wife of Nelson Mandela, Graca Machel, who will also be involved in the programme through the Grace Machel Mentoring Programme.
The Edinburgh Business School, which is under the Graduate School of Business at  has offered online distance learning programmes in Africa since 1990. It currently has 2,199 active African students and 1,187 alumni across the continent. While most distance Edinburgh learner interact with academics online, first-hand instruction is available at certain African institutions.

  1. Am very excited about this programme looking foward to try my lucky. Actually it is very good idea as there are some people like me who are intellectually fit but they dont want to leave their activities/employments in their domicile countries and still want to get world class education. Being Money as the main obstacle to attain their target, I think this programme will uplift alot of families.
