A group of entrepreneurs taking part in the Enablis Business Plan competition in Kenya attend a week of training workshops in the country’s capital.
The entrepreneurs are the top 100 finalists in the competition which attracted more than 2,500 entrants. This second edition of the Enablis Business Plan competition which kicked off in May this year seeks to inspire, mentor and support young entrepreneurs to succeed in business.
The entrepreneurs undergoing training at Kenya’s Inoorero University will receive skills on business presentations, financial management, marketing, human resources and project management. They will also be coached on ways to manage cash flow in their businesses and incorporate Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The competition has been organised by the Enablis Entrepreneurial Network of East Africa in partnership with Chase Bank, the Safaricom Foundation and Inoorero University.
One of the participants, Caroline Otieno of SweetPot Paradise, a business which makes pastries using sweet potato flour said she took part in the competition because she wanted to learn how to write a good business plan and how to manage cash flow in her business.
At the end of the week long training the entrepreneurs will pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges after which ten winners will be announced at a gala dinner to be held on Friday 20 November.
Moses Mwaura, Regional Director of Enablis East Africa, said training events on business proposal writing were held in 16 different towns across the country reaching 2,500 entrepreneurs.
The competition attracted youth entrepreneurs with most proposals coming from the field of agribusiness. This demonstrates that entrepreneurs are addressing the challenge of food insecurity caused by drought by coming up with innovative ways of doing agriculture,” said Mwaura.

Dear Babajide
Finding out what business to invest in is all part of the challenge of being an entrepreneur. Think about how you could contribute to your society and consider if you can make enough money doing it. A business needs to be innovative and sustainable.
