Outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs in Rwanda will be awarded this month at a gala dinner to be held in the capital Kigali on the 28th January 2011. The Business Excellence Awards organised by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) will recognise the contribution of 15 businesses, individuals and SME’s to the country’s economic growth in the year 2010.
The 15 categories of awards will cover sectors such as tourism, information and communication technology, finance, mining, general manufacturing and agroprocessing. Individual awards will be made out to Investor of the Year, Exporter of the Year, SME of the Year, Female Entrepreneur of the Year and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
The awards are expected to boost competition and promote quality standards in business. The awards now in their third year will place extra focus on the SME sector which comprises the majority of the business community in the country.
The businesses that will be nominated for the awards will be shortlisted based on profitability, innovation, corporate social responsibility activities and sustainable growth. Registration for nominations to the awards closed on Friday the 7th January 2011. Participating companies were expected to have been in operation for at least two years.
To ensure free and fair selection of nominees to the awards which are touted to be the most prestigious business awards in the country, the RDB has outsourced a private firm to drive the selection process.
The RDB is tasked with creating an enabling environment for the business community in Rwanda by ensuring that the regulatory and legal reforms that support the private sectors are in place.
