Kenya Hosts Countrywide SME Workshops

Owners of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Kenya can attend one day free workshops to be conducted across the country. The workshops will be held in different towns from the month of February to December 2011.
To be eligible for attendance, entrepreneurs should have a business that has been in existence for at least one year and a minimum of two employees. The SMEs should also have an annual turn over of between Ksh. 200,000 – Ksh. 1 Million (approximately between US dollars 2,473 and 12, 368).
The workshops will host up to 80 entrepreneurs in each session. Entrepreneurs will be taught on good business practices. It will also be a platform for entrepreneurs to make contacts and network with colleagues and experts.
The workshops are part of the Small and Medium Enterprise Fair and Conference (SMERC) 2011 campaign. The countrywide campaign will also include road shows and exhibitions in major towns in Kenya.
The workshops have been organised by Maple Management, an events management firm, in partnership with the SME Resource Centre, an organisation that supports SMEs. During the workshops, the SMERC will also be collecting data on SME’s in Kenya that is expected to offer solutions to the sectors challenges.
Topics to be covered during the sessions include business life coaching for business owners, marketing solutions for SMEs, as well as financial management training and consultancy solutions. Facilitators in the workshop will include business experts such consultants, business school lecturers and life coach mentors.
“The workshops will explore the major challenges SMEs face which include inadequate finances, lack of entrepreneurial skills and mentorship.” says June Gathoni the Managing Director of Maple Management.
