What is a franchise? A franchise refers to the right given a person or a group to market a company’s products or services within a certain area or location. The company will thereby have several branches of the business that fall under the same name and image.
There are many different types of franchises, the most popular being fast food businesses. There are over 120 different types of franchise businesses available today, including automotive, cleaning & maintenance, health & fitness, financial services, and pet-related franchises, just to name a few.
As an entrepreneur investing in a franchise business you will be allowed to open your own outlets of an established company using its name, brand and logo. The company also allows the third party operators to use its management, marketing and sales systems.
To be given these rights, the third party operator has to pay an initial fee, after which they are referred to as a franchisee. The franchisee will also have to pay annual royalties to the business. In exchange the franchise business which will now be refereed to as the franchisor and will offer the franchisee support such as training and management assistance.
When choosing a franchise business to invest in, you should also consider the potential of the business to generate profits.  You can do research to find out more about the company. For instance, find out how many franchisees it has and how they are performing.
