RDB Business Excellence Award Winners Announced

Outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs in Rwanda were awarded last month during the RDB Business Excellence Awards. The awards organised by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) aimed at recognising the contribution of businesses and SMEs to the country’s economic growth in the year 2010.
The winners were announced on 4th February 2011 at the official ceremony in Rwanda. In the SME of the year category was Ujenge a contracting and construction management company based in Kigali. The firm offers services such as architectural design and construction.
The runner up in the SME category was Access Information System (AxIS), a firm that offers Software and Web Presence Solutions. AxIS also won the best Information and Communication Technology (ICT) SME award.
Other award winners include the Banque Populaire Du Rwanda (BPR), a commercial bank which emerged the Best Investor, and Sorwathe, a tea company that undertakes production and marketing of tea which won in the Best Exporter category.
RDB Business Excellence Awards, which is the most prestigious investments award held in Rwanda, had 15 award categories covering sectors such as agro processing, information and communication technology, finance, general manufacturing, mining and tourism.
The organiser of the award, the RDB, is tasked with creating an enabling environment for the business community in Rwanda by ensuring that the regulatory and legal reforms that support the private sectors are in place.
