Early stage entrepreneurs in Kenya seeking support to transform their innovative ideas into successful business enterprises can now join an organisation that promises this support.
A newly established firm, the Entrepreneurship Development Center (EDC) is a one-stop shop for entrepreneurs offering a wide range of services aimed at enhancing and effectively providing a platform for growth.
In recognition of the challenges small businesses face as they try to enter the market, the firm has developed a holistic programme offering entrepreneurs training, advisory services, office space and management support to help them move beyond innovative ideas to profit making enterprises.
The EDC has a flexible training programme, ranging from 3 months to a year. During this period, entrepreneurs work with a team of consultants and business executives who identify their areas of development and support them to be self-sustainable
The EDC incubation programme targets fresh graduates who want to get into business and have viable ideas; employed personnel who want to venture into business, but want to limit risks in terms of the investment they make; and entrepreneurs who have been in business for a while, but want to have faster growth and need assistance in doing so.
The incubation programme has the capacity to host 20 one-person businesses and 6 private-office businesses. Incubatees are trained on, among other basics, action plan writing, drafting a business plan, etiquette, management, pitching, public speaking, simple bookkeeping and writing proposals.
The EDC is also working with several financiers such as Grofin and the Ecumen Fund in assisting its incubates access financing for expansion and growth of their enterprises.
