A brilliant or innovative idea, some resources and an incredible will to succeed are key ingredients to start up a business. Or so think many young entrepreneurs. Yet, there is an important difference between starting up a business and make it viable and sustainable. To help you build the right foundations and maintain your company afloat, you will need a strong network of support and services. This is exactly what Business Incubators offer you. And this is what you can find now at Kigali’s Incubation Center.
The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has established a business incubation centre in Kigali in a bid to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This is in line with the organization’s goal of promoting sustainable growth of SMEs by providing them with business support services, capacity building and access to finance, markets and technologies.
The incubation centre located in Masaka, Kigali offers entrepreneurs support services such as business incubation, training and access to finance. Entrepreneurs also get access to markets and information and technology support. The Masaka Business Incubation Centre is specifically targeted at entrepreneurs involved in leather goods making, bamboo products, cheese making and fruits processing.
“The centre will provide high quality mentoring and continuously updated training-modules in various technical and financial topics to the successful candidates” reads a statement posted by RDB.
A business incubator is a program offered with the sole purpose of supporting the establishment and growth of small businesses by offering support services to entrepreneurs. Support services offered can include fully equipped working space, technical assistance, advice, coaching and mentorship.
The RDB is selecting SMEs that will benefit from the business incubation centre. Selected SMEs will be allocated a personal mentor as well as support in marketing their products and managing their businesses. Other than training selected SMEs will also be allocated office space.
The RDB has been supporting the growth of SMEs in Rwanda by offering support services and organizing a business awards event that honors outstanding business and entrepreneurs.
The RDB Business Excellence Awards held every year promote competitiveness and recognizes the impact if business to the growth of Rwanda’s economy. The RDB is also tasked with creating an enabling environment for the business community in Rwanda by ensuring that the regulatory and legal reforms that support the private sector are in place.
