Youthful entrepreneurs in Africa can apply for the Sukuma Afrika Young Entrepreneurs Awards. The competition is open to entrepreneurs aged 35 and below whose businesses are involved in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
There are eight different categories to enter in the Sukuma Afrika Young Entrepreneurs Awards, each based on one of the eight MDGs.
The MDGs are eight international development goals revolving around the following:

poverty eradication
-
achieving universal primary education
-
gender equality
-
educing child mortality
-
improving maternal health
-
combating HIV/AIDS and malaria
-
ensuring environmental sustainability
-
developing global partnership for development
Winners will be announced and awarded at a function to be held on the eve of the World Economic Forum Africa that will take place in Cape Town, South Africa on 4th to 6th May 2011. The winners will get an opportunity to meet with potential financiers, business leaders and other social entrepreneurs.
Sukuma Afrika is a forum that offers a platform for social entrepreneurs to network and receive mentorship and financial assistance. Sukuma Afrika works in collaboration with the United Nation’s Millennium Campaign supporting young entrepreneurs involved in business enterprises that have an impact on the achievement of the MDGs.
