Your Guide to Customer Relations

8 Great steps to build your customer base and succeed in business.
1. Remember, It’s all about your Customer
Customers are an integral part of any business.  Without customers, your business cannot operate. This means you need to get a sense of who your customers are, understand their needs and factor in their perceptions when you make new company decisions. Make customers a constant focus point in your business strategy.
2. Build your Reputation on being Reliable
A good reputation is essential to establishing a sustainable business. To attract and keep customers you need to set the example by showing that you are reliable, honest and trustworthy.  The easiest way to do this is to keep to your word. If you promise to have something done by a specific date, then do it. But always do it to the best of your abilities. Maintaining a consistent level of service is also central to building your reputation.
3. Get to Know your Customers
In a small to medium business enterprise environment, entrepreneurs often deal directly with customers themselves. This means you can get to know your customers on a first-name basis and hear their complaints or queries directly. Listen to them, use their information to improve your service. Pay attention to your loyal customers because they are great assets to building your business.
4. Create a Competitive Advantage
Put yourself in the shoes of your customer. Ask yourself why you would to do business with your company instead of another company. Work out what competitive edge customers are looking for, and offer it. Is it a special returns policy? Or a longer warranty? Whatever the case may be, angle a competitive edge and sell it.
5. Aim Marketing at your Customer
If you want to market a product or service, focus on the benefits associated with the purchase as a marketing approach. Tell the customer about all the added features and try to apply it to their lives. In otherwords, sell the benefits of the product to generate and increase sales.
6. Be Accessible
Make it as easy as possible for people to do business with you. Be visible in business directorys and have a website. Make it easy for people to get hold of you and find your business. You need to be knowledgeable about your products and services. You must be able to provide customers with what they want, when they want it.
7. Follow-up
Keeping in constant contact with what’s happening in your business is essential. If a customer calls to speak to you with a query and you’re not there, make sure you call them back when you return. Following through with customers, suppliers, buyers, or any business alliance is an absolute necessity to getting the job done, and getting it done well.
8. Learn to Negotiate
To help you navigate your way through business, try to master the skill of negotiation. Being able to effectively negotiate deals with buyers and suppliers allows you to build strong working relationships, which is a huge asset to your business.
