GHANA – This high powered Ghanaian couple left their home country to live and work in the U.S.A. But years later, they decided to return to Ghana to bring their skills back.
Paul Lartey and Alexandra Graham are entrepreneurs in the medical field. Combining their joint expertise in the discipline they started a pharmaceutical production centre in Accra. They realized they wanted to make a difference in the community they were from and so they packed their bags and put their entrepreneurial skills to the test.
Their company, LaGray, focuses on the production of medical drugs in the treatment of malaria, tuberculosis and other diseases and infections. LaGray also concentrates on producing drugs that are affordable and available in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Although lack of sufficient infrastructure and unstable conditions in terms of utility supplies and services is a constant challenge for these entrepreneurs, they take it in their stride and are committed to continuing with their work.
As the first company to manufacture active pharmaceutical ingreduients (API’s) used in the production of medical drugs, La Gray is a leading entrepreneurial enterprise in Ghana. It is in fact the also the first fully self sufficient pharmaceutical manufacturer in West Africa.
As leading entrants into the market, starting this business has taken a lot of entrepreneurial spirit but LaGray has firmly found their feet on African soil. In spite of daily challenge and daunting tasks they are opening the region to new opportunities in the medical business.
