Women Prosper at CocoVico Market

The CocoVico Cooperation of the Women’s Market in Abidjan is a business owned and run independently by its members of female vendors. This flourishing agribusiness is a platform for female entrepreneurs to grow.
The CocoVico Market has empowered this large group of women, most of whom are uneducated and from a disadvantaged background, to become independent and profitable entrepreneurs. The women have achieved financial and social upliftment through trading at the market. By belonging to this cooperative, they have been given the opportunity to become self-sufficient business women and flourishing entrepreneurs.
Oikocredit funded the establishment of the market and Rosalie Boti, the Managing Director of CociVico, together with Mariam Dao, the Regional Manager of Oikocredit, say that through this investment in people the realisation of this business has created the opportunity for uneducated and poor women to build their lives and fight poverty.
The women selling fruit, vegetables and other foods share their experiences about being part of this independent and successful collaborative business, telling us how it has changed and benefitted their lives. The main benefits they have been able to achieve are to educate their children and feed their families.
The market has had a great impact on the local area through its contribution to its social and economic development, while at the same time creating a thriving platform for female entrepreneurs to grow.
