These Nigerian ladies make serious money in the beer industry!

The ladies at Modupe Stores Nigeria are drinking up their business success.
One of the main reasons that people start their own businesses is to become independent and not have to rely on others for income. That is why Modupe Stores Nigeria Limited was started by Mrs Ajoke Folarin.
The company distributes soft drinks and beer in Nigeria, and one of their biggest clients is Nigerian Breweries. The enterprise has grown tremendously from its humble beginnings. Miss Modupe Folarin explains:
When my mother started this business, she had to look for buyers. She started with one crate and then two crates. Then it was five crates, then ten. It just got bigger from there. We started at home and then had to move to a small store. Then it was to a bigger shop. After that, we had to build a warehouse just to meet the demands from Nigerian Breweries.
The business has evolved with the change in economy as well as its business focus, but thanks to Mrs Folarin’s strict business rules they have managed to expand while still maintaining a level of professionalism and excellence. This is vital for Modupe Store Nigeria’s business commitment to Nigerian Breweries.
It’s important to devise these guidelines. They tell us whether we are in the right position or not, whether we are making a profit or not. Monitoring allows us to also see where the business is and to make sure that money is where it is supposed to be,” she says.
This is even more important because Nigerian Breweries, as big as it is, is only a small part of the global brand that is the Heineken Group.
Modupe Stores Nigeria has managed to be running successfully for years because of its business-savvy bosses who have identified business opportunities and taken their chances, and the company is in good hands for the future, with continuity plans already in place.
We want the company to be ongoing, not that when the management is no more that the company will die. We have a successful planning for the company; in fact, we are looking for a place to contain more trucks and more storage,” Miss Folarin reveals.
Mother and daughter Folarin are successful businesswomen in Nigeria. They have gone from a small-scale enterprise to concluding contracts with their country’s biggest brewery, and they’re not ready to call it quits yet.
